In Allan Moore's The killing joke, He is trying to say that: regular people can be turned into psychopaths.
Throughout the book Alan Moore scatters various flashbacks of the Jokers life before he was "the Joker". He was a pretty normal guy, struggling with a job that does not pay and a wife at home with a baby on the way. This shows that the Joker was a psychopath, or evil, he became that way.
There are 2 incidents that cause Joker to become the way he is now. The first incident is when he finds out that his wife has died, his wife and his baby were all he has had, and he lost them. The 2 guys who where forcing him to do this red hood job were not sympathetic at all and didn't give him time to morn.
Than when he was doing the red hood job, batman was chasing him, he fell over and into a vat of acid. This was the tipping point to joker being insane. Obviously this would make a person crazy, but the real deciding factor was that he did not really have a will to live anymore. Sense he was fixed on the fact that his life was a joke (he said: "It's all a big joke to me.") before when he was talking to his wife means this was not just some random occurrence of falling into acid and being crazy, it means it was because of a deep personal event that happened to him. When he fell into the acid just sewed the pieces together.
All of these are good reasons why a regular person can be turned into a psychopath, and why the killing joke is a complex and amazing book.

Born racist? (the Help)
The book I am reading currently, the help, is mainly about raceisim. It takes place in the 1950's, when racisim and segregation are very real issues. People who are born don't have their personalty imbedded in their genes, that's why People are not born racist. If ones parents are racist, it is more likely that the kid will be because they have a influence on them from a young age. But mabie if there was a kid who was born to racist parents and adopted by nice non judgemental parents, kid would be a non racest.
In the help, the little boy named Mae mobely is born with a absent and mean mother so the maid takes care of him, sence the maid is raising the boy, he will probaly think of the maid as more of a mother figure than the actual mom.
In the book it talkes about how the maid would see red hand marks on the back of mae's legs from the mom. This is another reason why the baby would grow away from the mom and testes the main character.
I can't wait to find out how these issues will be resolved. I will come back to this topic once I have more textual evidence to support my thesis.

romeo and juliet
In general I did dent really like the movie, I felt it was too fast paced and rushed but than dragged out at some parts. I don't think Baz Learmen did a good job of showing why Romeo and Juliet were so in love and why they liked each other so much.
One reason for this is that he used all Shakespeare language, witch is fine but because that is how the play was intended, but the way he had them talking was not extremely helpful to show their love. It was hard to understand their relationship in the movie sense you can't break down every sentence while the movie is playing to have a better idea of what is going on. I don't think Baz did a good job of really showing physically why they liked each other so much.
secondly, it was never really fully explained why they got married. It was basically just like, oh hey wanna get married? yeah! but I might figure out something more when i get to that part in the book.
I just don't think baz leaurmen did such a good job with this move, especially explaining why romeo and Juliet like each other so much

True grit reading responce
Right now I am reading true grit. It's a pretty good book and I'm dying to read the end. In the book the main charcter, the girl, is pushing herself too hard to be brave but she turns out to be by the end of the book.
For example she is on this quest right now with two dudes she just met and dont really know. She is going to find the man who killed her father, and she is going to the end of the earth to find him. I'm not too aware of many 14 year old girls who would travel with two guys she just met to find the guy who killed her dad, that seems pretty abnormal to me.
When they had found shelter and people rooster had been chasing had been it she stood pretty strong. When they got in side and everything had progressed, she was really scared. Especially when they started fighting and she just stood there while blood squired on her! In the book it tells you how she was shaking in fear, wich shows she was actually terrefied.
Later on in the book when they go out searching for Chaney again, she forgets he gun and demands they go back. The men deny her request because they have already gone to far. I think this shows she is scared because she is afraid the 2 men might die and she would be left alone. She would be hopeless without her pistol. She is scared that she will lose the 2 men and be left to defend herself.
I think these reasons show that the girl is really scared and is just trying to hide it. My perdection is that she will grow as a person in this experience and become really brave to fight the life in front of her.

it is emilys blog and i like it because you can really tell she connected to the characters, she relates to them as if she knows them and she is very eager to find out what is happening next. I only enjoy a few books I really like so I'm glad she can enjoy every book that she reads. or at least is seems that way. Chance true grit post
In true grit, rooster is a very strong character. He is old and wise. I think he tries to act tough but he really has a soft heart (but only towards good people)for example he will just shoot down any bad guy he sees. But he will go far out of his way to save a good or innocent person. Even thow he charged the girl for chasing down Chaney, I think if he got to know her, he would of done it for free. I think rooster is a good modest guy but he just docent want to admit that to himself.

true grit (the book came first)
Im in the middle of true grit and here are some of my thoughts on the main characters quest to find Chaney.
I haven't seen the movie but i plan to after i read the book. I am at the part where she confronts rooster about trying to find Chaney. I think she is very brave for being so active in trying to avenge her father. I think that if I was in her situation i would try to get Chaney to help me too. If that failed i would grab my best friend (if he is willing) and go try to find Chaney with him. It would be a fun adventure but we would probably end up dead. I am very interested in western culture and am exited to finish the book.
